According to those who practice Dance Yoga, Dance includes Yoga, Pranayama, and the aspects of Patanjali's Ashtanga Yoga! Hence, it is safe to say that performing either activity brings the same effects!

In our previous blog, "A COMPLETE GUIDE TO YOGA AND INDIAN CLASSICAL DANCE," we mentioned the many similarities between Yoga and Indian Classical Dance. Today we are sharing some of the common benefits of these two art forms!

  1. An excellent option for Cardio: Our heart is one of the most critical organs in our body. The beating of the heart signifies the existence of life. Hence, it is crucial to keep our hearts healthy! Cardio exercises increase strength and reduce the risk of a heart ailment. Dance and yoga are unique and fun ways of ensuring the upkeep of the heart! There is a substantial focus on breathing in both yoga and dance, which ensures our lungs and heart get ample oxygen to sustain our life thread.
  2. Flexibility: If you see someone perform a yoga asana or a dance step with ease, be assured that is because of the years of practice and hard work. Both yoga and dance make a person flexible, which allows them to perform the asanas and dance with ease and grace! Being flexible also means there would be fewer injuries and an improved posture.
  3. Balance: When we talk about balance, we include physical and mental/emotional balance. It is a no-brainer that performing any physical activity has many benefits yoga and dance are no different. They bring with them many benefits. One such benefit is balance. Since in Indian Classical Dances, many postures include therav or a pause, this helps the dancer be in tune and focus while trying to strike a balance to avoid falling or injury. Hence, both yoga and dance allow the practitioner to be balanced both physically and mentally. A balanced movement also means improved posture, greater strength, and fewer injuries. A balanced mind and body lead to a positive state of mind that ultimately leads to improvement in performance.
